The Bay Lake Camp Labyrinth

Basic Instructions for Walking the Labyrinth

There are no wrong ways to use the labyrinth.
Find your own pace keeping in mind it may change.
Be respectful of other’s desire for silence and prayer.

More than one person can walk the labyrinth at one time.  Some people may be walking in as others are walking out.
It is perfectly fine to step aside to meet or pass someone.

A typical walk involves three parts:
The journey in – following the path to the center
Being in the center – time to meditate or pray or listen
or enjoy the space…
The journey out – retracing the same path from the
center back out

After leaving the labyrinth, you may wish to journal to further process the experience, walk around the perimeter and/or sit as a silent witness to the walk of others.

Don’t expect an “epiphany” experience every time.  Sometimes meanings from the labyrinth encounter don’t come to us for weeks or months.  You may not experience anything more than a feeling of peace – enjoy!  That may be exactly what you need.

Everyone’s experience will be different, and your own experiences will differ each time you walk a labyrinth.

Some ways to walk the labyrinth…

Walk with an open heart and open mind shutting out distractions and busy thoughts and spending this time alone with God.

Walk with a prayer or a concern or a question you wish to bring to God.

Repeat a word, phrase, song, or prayer to remain centered.  Some examples might be:  “Peace” or “God, hear my prayer” or “Spirit of Love, be with me” or “Be still…”

Walk with others and spend time together in the center to discuss an important issue, celebrate a special event or share a prayer.

Carry something that represents a burden, such as a small stone, leaf or pinecone, and set the item down along the path when you are ready to let go and release the burden.

Walk in with a prayer asking for God’s presence and forgiveness, pray in the center for specific concerns and walk out with a prayer of thanksgiving.

Dance, skip, twirl scarves, sing – celebrate God’s love!
